Another semester is almost over and it has been a busy springtime for our sisters. The rush of spring activities began at the end of March with our annual Ag in the Classroom philanthropy. This year we went to Inskip Elementary School to teach 4th graders about dairy. We began our hour segment by talking about where milk comes from and brainstorming all of the different products that come from cattle. Then we made ice cream in plastic bags. At the end of the hour we asked the students what they had learned, and they seem to have retained a lot of the information we went over.
The last weekend of March, we had our Spring Formal. We all dressed up and went out to Pigeon Forge, TN to see “Who Dunnit, Lucy” at the Great Smoky Mountain Murder Mystery Dinner Show. We had a very fun evening. The show was so cheesy you couldn’t help but laugh and the food was pretty good too. Then that very same weekend we had our Easter themed Sisterhood. Sunday afternoon we met at the University of Tennessee Gardens for a cookout and to exchange our final Sneaky Bunny presents. Sneaky Bunny is sort of like Secret Santa, but with three gifts ($5, $10, & $20) spread out over three weeks. Normally we play lots of fun games at Easter Sisterhood, but this year’s festivities were cut short by some rather unwelcome rain. Although, we did manage to have an Easter Egg Hunt before the clouds rolled in. Then on the Tuesday following Easter, the gentlemen of Farmhouse and our sisters got together for our annual Easter Dinner. Everyone brought lots of food to share and it was all delicious.
This past weekend our sisters participated in Relay for Life. This year’s Relay theme was different countries from around the world. Our sorority chose to be from Egypt. For our fundraiser we sold bottled water from the Nile River and mummy treats (hotdogs rolled up in crescent rolls to look like mummies). We also had a Cake Walk Like an Egyptian ever hour throughout the night. One of our membership candidates, Carly O’Connell, designed some pretty awesome shirts for everyone to wear that night.
This week we are participating in Alpha Gamma Rho’s 6th Annual Water Wars. This is AGR’s biggest philanthropy of the year and all the proceeds go to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. And on Thursday next week we will be hosting our yearly Sigma Alpha Stud Auction. This is one of our main fundraisers for the sorority. We persuade a few gentlemen to allow us to auction them off to the highest bidder. Then each lucky lady who wins a guy gets to go out on a lovely date that has already been set up by our sisters. We have been tirelessly collecting date packages for the past couple of months, and there are some really great places that have donated to the cause including: Ripley’s Aquarium, P.F. Chang’s, Red Lobster, Blake Jones Racing Center, Lazer Tag, Macaroni Grill, and many more.
